Sheryl Wood, Esq.
Sheryl R. Wood is the owner and founder of The Wood Law Firm PLLC which is litigation boutique handling cases in Maryland and Washington DC. Ms. Wood has over twenty-five years of experience as a litigator, criminal defense attorney, compliance counselor, investigator and contract negotiator. She was an Assistant District Attorney at the New York County District Attorney’s Office and a federal prosecutor in the Antitrust and Civil Rights Divisions of the U.S. Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Civil Rights Division. In the Criminal Section of the Civil Rights Division at DOJ, Ms. Wood investigated and prosecuted cases involving police misconduct and brutality, sexual assaults of prisoners and hate crimes in federal courts throughout the country. She also served as Deputy Director of the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs and Public Liaison at DOJ. Ms. Wood served as Vice President of Kroll Government Services and Head of the DC Office of Kroll, Inc. She was also a Partner at two law firms.
Ms. Wood has been a member of the Wage Commission since 2013 and has served as Chairperson since 2015. Ms. Wood has held various leadership positions in national and local bar and community associations. She is a member of the Class of 2004 of Leadership Greater Washington. In 2007, Ms. Wood founded a pipeline program designed to encourage high school students to consider a career as an attorney. The day-long program called NBA Youth Day, which she ran for eight years, is held annually at the convention site of the National Bar Association and is free of charge for student participants. She was a member of the Board of Directors of Associated Black Charities of Maryland from 2008 to 2012. Ms. Wood is a graduate of Howard University and George Washington University Law School. She is the mother of two children.
